Dear State Delegates,
The Utah Republican State Convention is a month away! After a long Covid-19 separation, we will be gathering at the Maverik Center in West Valley City to celebrate our shared values, conduct the business of our organization, and rally for the future of our great state and nation. In addition to the official convention, there will be optional social events to enhance your convention experience- there is something for everyone to get excited about and participate in!
This year’s convention promises to put the *party* back into the Republican Party! Some of the details are still being finalized, but here is the Convention Event Schedule:
Friday, April 30, 2021
- GOP Golf Tournament fundraiser at Stonebridge Golf Course
- Historic & Points of Interest Scavenger Hunt fundraiser in SLC (surprises along the way!)
- Youth Mingle with Special Guest (TBA) – TeenAge and College Republicans
- Evening Social Event with Special Guest (TBA)
Saturday, May 1, 2021
- “Morning in America” Sunrise Devotional
- Exhibit Hall
- 2021 Utah Republican Organizing Convention
- TARS (TeenAge RepublicanS) Convention & Youth Speed Mentoring
There has been much talk over the last year of a “new normal,” and we hope that this begins a new normal in how the Utah Republican Party looks forward to its State Convention each year. We hope you will join us!
Don’t forget, the deadline to file to run as a state party officer or submit any proposals is 5:00 P.M. on April 1, 2021. Send those to current State Party Secretary, Kendra Seeley, at firstname.lastname@example.org
following the instructions on the UTGOP’s Convention page.
Finally, we’ve received some questions that we wanted to answer, please go to the convention website
for additional FAQs as they may arise:
Q. Will it be more fun to attend this convention than other things I could be doing that Saturday?
A. Yes. A May 1st convention makes it most likely that anything you might be missing that day involves sweat and some kind of dirt.
Q. Can my spouse/friend/SO attend with me?
A. You may invite others to any of the optional social events, as space allows. Watch for the pre-registration email for details and sign-ups. There will be spectator seating available in sections above the delegate sections or they are welcome to sign-up as a volunteer for the event
Q. Will there be food available?
A. No. Covid-19 restrictions still don’t allow for concessions to be sold without also imposing 6-foot distancing. This may change, but for now, if you have a health condition that may not allow you to last more than 4 hours without food, tables will be provided for you to grab a quick bite outside. If you suffer from chronic “hangry,” you may want to refrain from making a motion to extend debate. 😉
Q: I am medically exempt from wearing a mask – will I be barred from attending?
A: No, you will not be barred from attending because you have a medical exemption to wearing a mask. The Maverik Center respects documented medical exceptions to their masking policy.
Q: Why are we holding the convention in person?
A: Because we can!! Health conditions and regulations have finally changed to allow us to gather in larger numbers again. Additionally, when the Governor lifted restrictions on gathering, it was determined that our current bylaws require an in-person convention. Plus, we miss your face!
Q: Is it possible to allow some people to attend virtually?
A: Technology does not allow us to conduct the business of the party virtually because of the dynamic nature of how business is conducted throughout the convention and the requirement that all participants have equal access to participate. In contrast to last year’s convention that was limited to the elections-only, we are returning to a full convention that allows our delegates to participate fully according to their duties.
Q: Why are we requiring masks on May 1st if the state mandate expires on April 10th?
A: The current requirements reflect current mandates. It is possible this will be lifted on April 10, but gatherings of more than 50 may still impose masks. We will keep you updated if this changes.
